The Heilongjiang Detachment of the China Building Materials Industry Geological Exploration Center was formerly known as the Heilongjiang Provincial Non-Metallic Geological Team, established in 1971. It is a state-owned geological exploration unit, originally affiliated with the Heilongjiang Provincial Construction Committee, and later transferred to the Heilongjiang Provincial Building Materials Industry Bureau. On August 29, 1978, it was renamed the Heilongjiang Provincial Non-Metallic Geological Company, and in 1989, it was renamed the Heilongjiang Detachment of the China Building Materials Industry Geological Exploration Center. In 1997, it was placed under the management of the China Materials Industry Science and Technology Group (now China National Building Materials Group Co., Ltd.). On August 26, 2016, the former China National Building Materials Group Co., Ltd. and the former China Building Materials Group Co., Ltd. were reorganized to form China Building Materials Group Co., Ltd., and it is now under the management of the China Building Materials Industry Geological Exploration Center under China Building Materials Group Co., Ltd. The detachment currently has 16 production, auxiliary production, and functional departments, and 2 wholly-owned subsidiaries.

Since its establishment, the detachment has undertaken nearly 215 national plan projects, national and provincial mineral resource compensation fee projects, central exploration fund projects, and commercial geological exploration projects, and submitted more than 215 pre-survey, general survey, detailed survey, exploration, and mine adjustment reports. The utilization rate of mineral exploration results is over 80%. It has won three provincial and ministerial second-class awards, more than ten third-class awards, and five mineral exploration awards. It has made outstanding contributions to the geological cause and mining development of Heilongjiang Province.
